Making Work Life Better: How PhonePe’s Frontpage Transforms Employee Experience

In today’s fast-paced work environment, having quick access to the right information can be the key to staying productive and focused — and that’s exactly what Frontpage, PhonePe’s internal platform, is built to deliver.
The need for a solution like Frontpage emerged directly from our employees. As PhonePe continued to grow, so did the complexity of our internal systems and touchpoints. This often made it challenging for employees to quickly find what they needed, navigate the organization effectively, and feel connected.
The idea began in our Hackathon conceptualized by a few engineers who set out to solve their daily problems. This quickly gained momentum and soon a group of folks from the HR, product, design and engineering teams got together to build out an org-wide solution. The team gathered pain points from across the organization and rapidly iterated to launch the first version of the platform within just a few months!
Frontpage has now become mainstream at PhonePe used by 90% PhonePe-rs every week. It is our one stop solution today to simplifying and enhancing work experience for our employees.

We built Frontpage to be the first stop in every employee’s digital workday. Whether it is checking announcements, finding a teammate’s contact, or using other tools, everything comes together in one smooth, unified experience.
What Frontpage does
At the heart of Frontpage is a simple idea: make work life easier for our people.
- A people directory that instantly connects us – Finding and reaching out to the right colleagues should be easy—and with Frontpage, it is. Our “People” section lets you search by name, department, or business unit, and each profile includes helpful details like role, reporting structure, and contact info. We also pay attention to small fun details like popping up confetti people profiles to celebrate birthdays and work anniversaries!

- One place for all important updates – No more sifting through emails or scrolling through endless Slack threads. The PhonePe Bulletin brings you real-time updates on everything that matters—company news, internal initiatives, events, and key deadlines. From the next Hackathon to a policy change or a tax reminder, it’s all in one clear, accessible place.
- All your tools, one click away – Frontpage brings together the tools employees use most into a single, streamlined dashboard. Whether it’s checking payroll, submitting tax declarations, managing access, or completing performance reviews—everything you need is just a click away. It’s simple, efficient, and built for everyday use.
- On-the-go mobile access – With many teams working remotely or on the ground, easy access to Frontpage is essential. We’ve optimized the platform for mobile devices, making it simple for everyone to use—whether it’s applying for leave, checking the holiday calendar, or accessing important tools on the move.
- Everyday information made accessible – Some of Frontpage’s most-loved features meet simple daily needs—checking the lunch menu, viewing the holiday calendar, checking a policy, or using floor maps to find meeting rooms and desks. These small touches add up to a smoother, more enjoyable workday. Additionally, because relevant information matters, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) ensures that each employee sees only what’s applicable to their role. This keeps the experience clean, focused, and secure.
How an Internal Hack Became a Company-Wide Tool
At PhonePe, we pride ourselves on the user-centricity of our consumer products. We brought that same level of craftsmanship and care to the development of Frontpage. Our goal was to create a simple, decluttered, and highly intuitive interface that allows employees to get things done quickly and efficiently.
Built on the same high-performance tech stack that powers the rest of PhonePe, Frontpage delivers a seamless experience with API response times consistently under 100ms.
To ensure content stays fresh and relevant, Frontpage syncs people data from systems like SuccessFactors and enriches it with profile pictures and bios from Slack. For dynamic updates like lunch menus, announcements, and tools, we use Google Sheets as a flexible backend—making it easy for non-tech teams to manage and update content effortlessly.

Staying true to its mission of being the go-to hub for PhonePe folks, Frontpage is evolving with features like universal search to help teams quickly find tools, people, policies, and documents.
